There are not many books around on the Andes in english and this one is a beauty. I have been looking for a decent pictorial book on the Andes for many years and finally this one appeared.
Approx 350 photos over the 160 pages in the book show us the many landscapes and varied plant and animal life that exists in one of the greatest mountainous wilderness areas in the world. These photos are all of wilderness, no people, no buildings or anything manmade. The only photo of a person in the book is one of the author on the inside back flap of the book.
The author describes the range from north to south and gives personal accounts of parts of her trips to the areas as well as factual information.
Overall, a magnificent book with great photos and fascinating text. For me personally, I would liked to have seen a few more mountain shots and less animal shots (although the animal shots are amazing and there are still plenty of mountain shots) and the book does not include a shot of the highest mountain in the Andes, Mt. Aconcagua. A larger photo of Cape Horn would have been good too. Small criticisms that stopped me giving it 5 stars, but I highly reccommend it to all lovers of wilderness.
